| Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue, Inc. is an all-volunteer, donation-sponsored 501c3 charitable organization dedicated to saving the lives of abused, abandoned and unwanted Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apsos. Our organization is funded entirely by donations from wonderful people like you and all money collected is used solely for medical care for these little dogs. The organization is based in Houston, Texas and has foster homes in both Houston and Dallas. We are always looking for wonderful, loving homes to adopt our dogs. Each and every dog accepted into the program undergoes a physical examination by our veterinarian and is spayed or neutered prior to being adopted. Because of the nature of this mission, we often accept dogs with serious medical problems - predominately heartworms. This is a very expensive disease to treat, luckily, most dogs recover completely after treatment. We treated close to 40 so far. We have no shelter - all of our dogs live in foster homes around the Houston or Dallas metro areas. We are always in need of more foster homes - all it takes is an open heart. If you can't foster but would like to help, consider sponsoring a portion of the medical expenses for a specific dog. If you want to see what rescue is all about, check out our VICTIMS OF NEGLECT. | Please plan for your dog: Many of the rescue dogs we get in to our program come to us when their "dad" or "mom" pass away, are hospitalized or go into a nursing home. Normally, the family members left to care for the dog didn't sign up for the task and really aren't interested in inheriting a old pet. They call us desperate to take the dog IMMEDIATELY. Please, if you have one of these adorable little fluff babies - please talk openly and candidly with your family about who would care for the dog when you are gone. If no one in your family will care for it as a loving member of the family, you need to immediately start researching rescue groups and make arrangements for that group to accept your dog if anything happens to you. It will be much easier to find someone able to take a dog, especially an older dog, if you allow for financial aid in your will. Many times, the older dogs take a considerable amount of time and money to place and if allowing a bit of financial aid to cover medical expenses for the dog makes it much easier for a rescue group to commit. None of us have extra funds, in fact, most of us pay a considerable amount out of our own pockets. DO NOT pay anything to the rescue group up front - you cannot be certain that that group will be around when you need them. Rather, identify the groups you've researched, in order of preference and the monthly or annual amount you want used from your estate to care for the dog. |
