ARTIE
ARTIE - another for the record
books!!
This afternoon, I was sitting on the couch, working on the
website and watching Animal Precinct on Animal Planet.  The
phone rings - its Alicia with Dobie rescue.  She starts telling
me that this good samaritian just showed up at her adoption
event with a HORRIBLE-LOOKING shih tzu.  "He is mangy,
has no hair, has scabs all over his  body and he STINKS."

"OK, I said, sounds like what my vet would call a Lone Star
dog!!"

I met the good samaritan that afternoon and this is what I
found - ARTIE.  I took him home, gave him a Capstar (he was
crawling with fleas) and soaked him in medicated shampoo.
Tomorrow, he goes to the vet.  I suspect sarcoptic and/or
demodex mange.

UPDATE:  October 30, 2004
Artie has demodex and heartworms.  He is also very anemic from all of the fleas.
We have to get him a bit healthier before we even can start treating his mange or
heartworms.    He will be dipped weekly for 4-6 weeks and if that goes well, he'll
be neutered and start heartworm treatment.

Thank you to all of our wonderful donors for so generously giving to help Artie. We

Thank You!
Artie's skin is infected and oozing.
He was crawling with fleas.  But
through all the baths and poking
around, he was still very sweet.
Ahhhhh - after the repeated baths, now
for some quiet snoozing.
