Successes!!

May 23, 2002    Yet another unbelievable story.  Just before Memorial
Day, a volunteer from one of the Dallas-suburb shelters emailed me about
this poor, old, emaciated, stinky shih tzu that REALLY, REALLY needed
our rescue to take.   He had a terrible skin infection and smelled so bad
that no one would go near his cage.  Of course,  there was no way to put
this dog up for adoption to the public, so his ONLY chance for life was
if our rescue took him in.  The pictures made me sick!!!

Who could let a tiny, sweet little dog get in a condition like this?

friends.  Click here!!

Believe it or not, these are
Brillo's front feet.  They look
like dragon feet to me.

We got Brillo to Houston to our "intensive care" foster home.  His skin
is nasty and so sore he doesn't even want to walk.  How can ANYONE
allow a sweet, adorable, loving lap dog get in a condition like this?

We found that Brillo has demodex or puppy mange.  And that he's only
about five years old.  He has some sight problems, but luckily, after we
cleaned his eyes out several times, he can see enough to navigate the
house and yard.

Doesn't he have a sweet little face?

Even his poor tail (which wags constantly) is
almost hairless and covered with scabs.

Often times, when we start treating demodex, the skin gets horribly
worse before it gets better.  The mites get so aggrevated at the dip
that's killing them, they make the poor dog's skin itch even more.   Poor
Brillo is chewing bloody holes in his little legs.

Brillo will have a    L O N G   road to recovery.   Because his mange was
allowed to go so long and get so bad, it could take 6-8 months before we
can get his immune system built up and get the mites under control.

Brillo's general health condition makes the situation even worse.  He's
very thin.

Brillo is very thin, but is eating pretty well.

Significant progress with adorable Brillo.

His sores are healing quite well.   The folds and stretched out skin seems
to have pulled back up again and his legs look like a normal dogs.  Take a
look at his legs below and compare them to what his legs looked like just
a month ago.

The best part,
Brillo runs and plays like a little puppy again!!!!!
