Shih Tzu Rescue
My name is Giorgio and the past 7 years I spent
my life in a cage having litter after litter of puppies so
that my owner could sell them and make money. I had lots
of beautiful babies but I don’t know what happened to any
of them since they were taken away so quickly. Then one
day my owner decided some of us were too old to be of
any value anymore. She sure didn’t want to spend money
feeding us when we couldn’t produce any puppies. Luckily
for me and two of my mill mates, she let us go to a rescue
group. That was the beginning of a new and wonderful life
with lots of good food, warm hugs and a loving home.

First, I took a long drive from Tyler to Dallas and spent some time at the vet where I was
spayed, given all my shots and checked out. It turns out that I had heartworms, whip worms and
several small mammary tumors. They are all gone now and I feel so much better. At first I would
only sleep and eat and sometimes get sick and vomit because of the whip worms. But with those
nasty worms gone I’ve started to run and play, just like other dogs. One of my eyes is also very
badly scarred and I can’t see out of it, but it doesn’t stop me from going wherever I want. Even if
I can’t see out of the one eye, my foster mom says she can see the love in them both.
Pretty soon my foster mom
noticed that sometimes I would
fall over when I was running and
seemed to limp a bit on the right
side. I don’t have any pain, but
she took me to the vet to see
what was wrong. At first the vet
said it was very, very unusual for
a dog to injure their front legs,
normally an injury occurred in the
back legs. But, after some x-rays they found out that at some point I
broke my right elbow and it was just left to heal on its own. Even though
the elbow doesn’t slow me down too much, as I get older there’s a good
chance it will get painful.
