Luke Pipes's Story
"Several months back I went to pick up a dog at the
Dallas Shelter. While I was there the owner came in
to the shelter. The shelter attendant had said the dog
had a crushed leg. The owner would not release the dog
to me at that time. I gave her my business card. I
also got her # . I called several times to check on the
dogs progress. Was told all was fine with the dog.

I got an urgent call for the owner this morning. The
dog is at the vets with a serious infection in the leg
that was crushed. She thinks they may put the dog
down. I am trying to reach her vet as I write this to
get idea of the condition of the dog. The owner would
like for us to take the dog.

Update: I spoke to the vet at hospital where he is
now. Luke is on fluids and antibiotics. He needs to
have his leg removed once the infection is under
control. This dog may not make it as he has gangrene
of the leg. After talking with the vet where Luke is
hospitalized I strongly feel it would be best not to
move to one of our vets until Luke is stable. It is my
understanding the leg cannot be saved."

Update: 10-11-05 Luke made it through the surgery
and is now recovering in a foster home.
