Oklahoma Breeder Refugees
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First, I am so sorry that it's taken me two weeks to update you all on the breeder refugees.
So far, we have funds and foster homes for seven.  We've also established several affiliations with other rescue groups throughout Texas and even nationally who are ready and waiting to help with these dogs.  WHEW!!  The breeder released a few of the dogs last week and one of the other rescue groups in Tulsa was able to absorb them into their foster network.
Now for the ridiculous part...after causing all of this "urgent" message thing, the breeder decided to try to sell the rest of the dogs to make some money.  This has happened to us in the past - when we went after the seven little dogs from north Texas.  We are expecting that sometime in the near future, she will call again and have to dump the dogs THAT day.  So, we're hanging tight.  We'll figure it out when the dogs are available.
All of the funds that you wonderful, generous people donated, will remain available for these breeder dogs until they come available.  Although we are leaving the fund open for now, we won't aggressively go after donations until we see that the breeder is going to do the right thing and turn the dogs over to some rescue.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email me at TERESA@shihtzu-rescue.com.
ANOTHER HIT BY CAR BABY - MEET BRUNO
This poor baby isn't as lucky as Adam, we KNOW he has broken bones.  See the x-rays below.   Bruno will need orthopedic surgery - he needs to have an external device mounted to his leg to allow the bone to heal and to prevent his leg bone from twisting while it heals.  Unfortunately, our vet doesn't do this surgery so he is referring Bruno to the orthopedic specialist.
He estimates that this surgery and the followup will cost around $2000.  We need to take Bruno next week and need to be able to pay that bill then.  The speciality clinics don't allow us to carry a balance like our normal vets do.
This is the x-ray of Bruno's legs.  The one on the left is totally snapped right in the middle.  The one on the right is what it is supposed to look like.  We don't want to amputate the leg and our vet has given him a great prognosis IF we can do the orthopedic surgery.
This is Bruno, we think he is a lhasa/ schnauzer mix.  Luckily, he is very, very sweet and very young.
This is a side view of the leg.
This is the type of case you have always wanted us to help.  I looked at his face yesterday and just melted.  Just like Adam, this one has a great chance to be totally healed.
June Shelter Dogs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We continue to be overwhelmed with more and more shelter dogs.  Just today, we took in a 17 year old shih tzu whose "owner" left him at a Dallas-area shelter.  Unbelievable.

Please consider donating to the June Shelter dogs that we are taking in.  We are entering the summer dumping season and expect to be totally overwhelmed in the next three months.  We cannot save them without you, so please consider helping.  Here are just a few of the ones we've saved in the past few days.
This is Jewel - she's a 10 year old adorable female that was left at a Dallas-area shelter.  No one wanted her.  If you would like to adopt Jewel, please apply now - she deserves a good home.

This is Ginger, a sweet little lhasa girl that was rescued running down the SouthWest Freeway in Houston in December of 1999.  She was pregnant, had heartworms, was matted into one large chunk of fur and was horribly emaciated.  She was my first foster baby.  Truly, she is the reason I got involved – and I'm glad I did.  Thank you, Ginger!!
