Shih Tzu Rescue
Vikki
Vikki  is a 7-8 year old Lhasa, an ex-puppy mill mama, and
not spade.  The vet said she is literally starving to death
and has many problems including mammary tumors, gunky
eyes, and tape worms.  Also, her left shoulder and right hip
are badly torn up and infected.

On October 28th Vikki was saved by one of our volunteers
at a veterinarian's office where she was on the table and
about to be euthanized!  Thankfully the office manager
knew our volunteer Byron and when she saw Byron getting
out of his car to bring in one of his dogs, she ran out to the
parking lot and told him about Vikki.  Byron spoke to the
owner who did not want to spend any more time tending to
Vikki's needs.  She did, however, turn Vikki over to Byron
and donated $100 toward Vikki's care.

Update: 12-10-04
The past month or so have been full of ups and downs for Vikki as we have been trying to get a handle on her skin
situation.  Originally we were told that she had severe allergies and that resulted in her self mutilations and
terrible skin condition.  Then the really bad spots were diagnosed as ring worms.  After treating her for 2 weeks
without making much headway, we took her to another vet who diagnosed her with Demodex mange.  Ring worms
did not show up with the cultures this time.  We began the dips for the Demodex this past Monday and she will
need 4-7 more, done weekly.

We are still holding off with her spaying and removal of the mammary tumors until the skin condition is in hand and
so she can build up some strength.  The rear tumor is "worrisome" according to both vets and we are very
concerned about the time factors but the vet is monitoring that.  Vikki's weight has gone up from about 6 lbs. (she
was being starved) to about 12 lbs. now and she is progressing strenght-wise.

Vikki is one of the sweetest, most sociable little dogs I have ever seen - even after the way she has been
treated in the past.  She loves to hang out with our dogs.  She is learning the proper behaviors to get along with
other little dogs but that will take a while.  We keep her in her black booties or two pairs of socks so she does not
tear herself up scratching. She will lay on her stuffed pillow all evening and watches TV with us and seems to love
just being in a home instead of a cage.
