Meet Daisy

July 3,  2002
We received an email about a 5-7 year old lhasa who needed to come into
rescue.  Her elderly owner had died and the children didn't want Daisy.

When our volunteer first saw this dog, she cried.  Daisy is a tiny, seven pound
lhasa apso or maltese.  She had TERRIBLE skin allergies and had chewed her
tail, back and legs into an unrecognizable mess.  She has a tumor about the
size of a base ball on her stomach and little warts everywhere.  With all of
this, Daisy wouldn't stop waging that naked, red rat tail at Bekye.  Although
we had a ominous feeling that she wouldn't survive, we decided to accept
Daisy into our rescue program.  Our feeling was that even if we couldn't get
her over all of these problems, we would provide her with lots of love and
attention.

Daisy's tumor
We have no idea what this
tumor is yet, but it looks
horrible
.

We were finally able to get Daisy to Houston to our "ICU" foster home.
She's visiting the vet today.  We do know that on top of that nasty skin and
tumor,
SHE HAS HEARTWORMS.

July 22, 2002

Daisy visited the vet this morning.  Her bloodwork was good, but the chest
x-ray showed a significant enlargement of the heart - no murmur, thankfully.
Her tumor will be removed this afternoon.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Daisy's teeth are rotted -
several will have to be removed.

Isn't this just the sweetest
face?  How anyone could let
their dog - or the dog of anyone
in their family - get like this is
beyond me.
